WORDS BY NANCY A. NASHER
PRESIDENT AND OWNER, NORTHPARK CENTER
In the world of fashion, fall sets the tone for the year ahead as retailers embark on new collaborations and product launches, engaging customers with their unique brands. At NorthPark Center, we wholeheartedly embrace the changing of the seasons through our own unique offerings that enhance the visitor experience, including store openings, exclusive exhibitions and signature events.
This issue’s Art of Shopping campaign, Exquisite Details, melds high fashion with Spanish influence at the Meadows Museum at Southern Methodist University, home to one of the world’s most comprehensive Spanish art collections. Luxury fashions from BOSS Hugo Boss, Bottega Veneta, Canali, CH Carolina Herrera, Gucci, Louis Vuitton Men’s Store, Neiman Marcus, Roberto Cavalli, Salvatore Ferragamo and Versace tell the story of the season amid the museum’s classic décor and spectacular masterpieces.
This fall, the Meadows Museum welcomes two important exhibitions by Salvador Dalí, the largest showing of his artwork ever seen in Dallas history. We learn about Dalí: Poetics of the Small, 1929–1936, and Dalí’s Aliyah: A Moment in Jewish History, as well as the Meadows Museum’s immense role in the world of Spanish art in a profile of the museum's director, Dr. Mark Roglán. Dalí’s use of unexpected imagery in his art serves as inspiration for our luxury shoe, handbag and accessory feature, Surreal Splendor, creatively imagined by Dallas’ renowned artist-photographer Geof Kern.
For our contemporary feature, The Creative Collective, we travel south to Corsicana, Texas, where we discover 100W, an international residency for artists and writers founded by Kyle Hobratschk and Travis LaMothe. Fashions, shoes and accessories from many of NorthPark’s best-in-class retailers are mixed together and layered to create head-to-toe styles that make a statement with this historic 19th-century building as the backdrop.
In Strokes of Genius, we appreciate the use of color, metals and stones from a variety of our finest jewelry brands, and we pair them with striking drawings by London-based fashion illustrator Caroline Tomlinson. In Perspectives in Time, we explore exquisite timepieces and accessories that reflect six distinct personalities. In addition, the rich history and creative direction of NorthPark’s exclusive international brands Fabiana Filippi, Longchamp Paris and Diptyque are presented through several retail features.
This season, we welcome new art installations to NorthPark by internationally renowned contemporary artists Natasha Bowdoin and Leonardo Drew. Their unique points of view and varied materials are the focus of our artist spotlights. We are also excited to announce our expanded partnership with The Dallas Opera through The Fabric of Opera, an exclusive costume exhibition now on view. This beautiful display celebrates the company’s lavish design tradition over many decades.
As the bounty of fall’s rich hues transforms into the magic of all things holiday, we look forward to welcoming you and your family to NorthPark to create lasting memories through unparalleled shopping, time-honored traditions, beautiful surroundings, engaging performances and exhibitions, and opportunities to give back to our community. We sincerely hope you enjoy this issue of NorthPark The Magazine.
